The Area Selection is the first stage of the competion. Ten sessions were held throughout the UK. In May 2010 we attended the Area Selection stage at The Anvil in Basingstoke. We were fortunate enough to be named "Choir of the Day" and entered into the second stage of the competion.
The second stage of the competition is the National Selection, a recording round where judges listen to all of the Area Selection Stage winners and put through four choirs from each category to the Category Finals. In June, we were advised that we had been selected by the judges to go through to the Category Finals.
The Category Finals took place on 6th November 2010 at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. We competed against three other childrens choirs., the Westminster Boys Choir, Inverclyde Schools' Junior Choir and Warwickshire County Boys School. We were absolutely thrilled to win the category and be named "BBC Children's Choir of the Year 2010".
Our win in Birmingham earned us a place in the Grand Final at the Royal Fesitval Hall in London on 28th November 2010 to compete for the title of "BBC Choir of the Year 2010". The children put on a fantastic performance but were just pipped to the post by an adult choir, Wellensian Consort. Many congratulations to them.
We were thrilled by the judges comments we received;
Eric Whitacre (judge) - "where to begin - such an innocent pure delicate performance - they were so musical and so in tune"
Mary King (judge) - "in a vast space like that - to sing with such clarity and long phrasing and fantastic tone for ones so young"
Elin Thomas (Judge) - "every one of them really knew what they were doing. I thought they did a beautiful job."
This was the first time we had entered the compeition and we were thrilled to have got to the Grand Final. We are hugely proud to have the title of BBC Children's Choir of the Year 2010 for the next two years
